Do you ever dream of having huge buffets of food all to yourself? Does the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest make you hungry?
If so, you may be happy to know that the students at University of Maryland—College Park have launched a competitive eating team.
What is competitive eating? It’s pretty much what you would think: eaters compete to consume the most food in the shortest amount of time. There’s actually a professional league for it— Major League Eating—and it includes luminaries such as Joey Chestnut, who is currently the top-ranked eater.
According to The Washington Post, the UMD team is one of the first collegiate eating teams in the country. University at Albany, part of the State University of New York system, boasts the very first collegiate team.
