A couple of weeks ago I posted a funny video that Centre College produced about its application review process.
This morning, NBC’s “Today” show aired a segment about the real-life application review process at Grinnell College. Grinnell uses an approach favored by many very selective schools in the U.S., one that involves subjectivity and, as a result, some chance.
Check out the “Today” segment below. At the end there’s an informative interview with Jacques Steinberg, editor of the New York Times education blog, The Choice. Steinberg encourages students to relax and “be themselves” throughout the application process. It may sound clichéd, but it’s good advice when so much is outside of your control.

Grinnell’s dean of admission and financial aid, Seth Allen, also sat down with a “Today” show producer for an extended interview.
