In the near future, choosing a course, a major, or even a college might involve much less guesswork.
According to a recent article on the Chronicle of Higher Education, professionals in academia are increasingly using student data to streamline many of these big decisions.
These professionals use a student’s grades in previous classes (among other data points) predict to his or her future performance in a variety of situations. They then make suggestions for the student based on these predictions.
At least one company, ConnectEDU, wants to use data to automatically match high school students with colleges—and make the application process obsolete.
