At the University of California (UC), some administrators have proposed asking all incoming freshmen about their sexual orientation.
According to Robert Anderson, chair of the UC Academic Senate, the ultimate goal of the proposal is to provide better services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students.
UC’s proposal comes not long after Elmhurst College’s decision to ask applicants about their sexual orientation directly on its application for admission. LGBT applicants to Elmhurst are eligible for a diversity scholarship.
