When writing an application essay, it’s important to keep in mind a few things about the folks who will eventually read it. These include the following:
- They won’t necessarily be wide-awake when they read it.
- They're not your friends, so they won’t appreciate casual or harsh language.
- They won’t be familiar with any local institutions that you mention.
- They won’t appreciate negative comments about the people or places in your life (they don’t want their school to be a place you disparage one day).
