Letting your one of parents call a college’s admissions office on your behalf is mistake, says Steve Sterling at MyCollegeCalendar.
Why? It suggests that you might not be mature enough to handle college; it also hints that you might have an over-involved parent. These would be two strikes against you if you decide to apply.
If you have a question for a college, you should make the call yourself. (Financial aid questions are exceptions to this rule—colleges won’t expect you to have in-depth knowledge of your family’s finances or the aid process.)
