College application season is right around the corner.
If you’re a rising high school senior, chances are you’ll soon be writing one or more application essays.
Hopefully, you’ve already reviewed the Common App’s new essay prompts and spent some time considering which one will allow you to tell the best story.
However, before you start typing away, you should consider some of the qualities that just about every successful essay possesses. Montgomery Educational Consulting recently shared the following five:
- They answer the prompt.
- They are written with the average application reader in mind.
- They are enjoyable reads.
- They enable the reader to “picture” the events and persons described.
- They possess a compelling opening sentence.
Click each quality above to learn more about it. And don’t fret that they will sap your story of its originality—they leave you plenty of room to make your essay unique.
